What to Expect At The Office

This section is about office specific procedures. For information on what to expect in play therapy, click here.

Playful Connections Counseling is housed within the offices of Pediatric Therapy Northshore. While these businesses are separate, the office staff of Pediatric Therapy Northshore also act as the office staff of Playful Connections Counseling. As such, Playful Connections Counseling will honor its policies and practices as outlined below. Should something change, Morgan and/or the staff will communicate the changes to you.

When you arrive at the office for your intake session, Morgan will meet you and your child at your car. You will get a quick tour of the facility before sitting down together. During the intake, we will discuss the concerns that bring your family /child to counseling, strengths about your family/child, relevant history, and so on. There will also be a review of policy and procedures for the office as well as relevant paperwork filled out prior to session. Morgan will orient you to the play therapy room, the process of play therapy, and allow you to explore the toys and ask any questions you may have. There will be a period of time where you and your child play and when Morgan and your child in the playroom.

When you arrive for any other appointment Morgan will meet you outside at the start time of the appointment, greet you and your child, and escort your child to the play therapy room. In order to best locate your vehicle, please hold up the sign provided to you by the office staff. At the end of session, Morgan will walk the client back out to your vehicle and say goodbye. While the providers of Pediatric Therapy Northshore use the end of session as a time for parent check in, Morgan asks that all discussion about the client be reserved for a parent-only session. Regular updates can be given via the check-in form or through email. If something cannot wait until the next parent session, nor can it be communicated through form or email, please schedule an additional parent session.

In order to keep everyone healthy, the office has an illness policy. If your child is ill, please cancel therapy appointments until symptoms are no longer present. If a child presents any symptoms of illness during therapy, you will be contacted in order to pick your child up. The following are considered illnesses that are cause for cancellation:

  • any cough that interferes with talking or movement

  • a productive cough

  • fever within the last 24 hours without fever-relief medication (Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc.)

  • vomiting or diarrhea within 24 hours of the scheduled session
